WHAT WE DO

CSRPC fosters dialogue and partnership with communities in and beyond academia to deconstruct and critique the role of race and racism in society.

CSRPC drives initiatives that highlight groundbreaking research and foster innovative anti-racist practices at the University of Chicago and beyond. As a thought partner and hub for building knowledge, CSRPC offers funding to support scholarship and collaborates with others to create events that shape meaningful conversations. We engage students, faculty, staff, activists, and community members in both formal and informal dialogue to envision a more just campus, city, and world.

WE SUPPORT ART FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

For over a decade CSRPC has collaborated with APL to host yearly cohorts of Artists-in-Residence whose work examines themes relevant to South Side communities and engages issues of race, politics, and culture. In addition, the Center and APL have collaborated on Artists-for-the-People fellowships and most recently a new public art project to launch in May 2025.

We Create Communities of Learning

A cornerstone of CSRPC’s antiracist work is our Beyond Prisons Initiative, which is a teaching and learning initiative that interrogates, disrupts, and works to move beyond the carceral logics and systems that disproportionately affect people of color.
