May 1996CSRPC Founding Conference
University of Chicago faculty host the founding conference of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture, “Race and Voice: Challenges for the 21st Century.” Political Science Professor Michael C. Dawson is the inaugural faculty director of CSRPC.
April 2005Feminism & Hip Hop National Conference
“[T]he Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture has organized ‘Feminism and Hip-Hop,’ the first national conference to assess how hip-hop culture affects and portrays women, particularly African-American women.”
april 2008Race, Sex, Power: New Movements in Black & Latina/o Sexualities
“The University's Center for Gender Studies and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture are co-sponsoring what is considered the largest organized conference to examine Black and Latina and Latino sexuality.”
july 2009Comparative and Ethnic Studies (CRES) Major and Minor Program Launched
The BA program in Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies offers an interdisciplinary curriculum through which students can examine the histories, languages, and cultures of the racial and ethnic groups in and of themselves, in relationship to each other, and, particularly, in structural contexts of power.
may 2013Angela Y. Davis: Feminism and Abolition
CSRPC Annual Public Lecture and CSGS Classics in Feminist Theory Series present Angela Y. Davis: Feminism and Abolition: Theories and Practices for the 21st Century. Davis' lecture culminates a year-long series on the theory and praxis of her work and re-inaugurates the CSRPC Annual Public Lecture.
october 2013CSRPC building re-opens after major renovation
“The renovated building will provide much needed space for center programming as well as a home away from home for graduate and undergraduate students. Above all, the location of our beautiful building at 5733 South University puts us on the quad and at the center of University life, which is where we want to be.”
april 2015CRES Talks: Conversations on Race & Ethnicity
CSRPC launches a speaker series designed to bring to campus scholars and writers whose work is currently being taught at UChicago. This series brings topics discussed within the confines of the classroom into an open forum.

Faculty affiliates of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture (CSRPC) launched the #MorethanDiversity campaign, which included a demand that the Provost fund an academic unit at the University devoted to the study of race.
july 202210th Anniversary of CSRPC/APL Artist-in-Residence program
CSRPC and UChicago’s Arts + Public Life (APL) celebrate 10 years of a jointly hosted residency program for Chicago-based artists whose work centers race and community engagement with an exhibition, All That Light, curated by Tracie D. Hall.
