2025
Inaugural Public Art Project
CSRPC is excited to partner with Arts + Public Life (APL) to a launch a new Arts Lawn Public Art Project in May 2025. APL has commissioned Chicago artist, Yvette Mayorga to fabricate and install large-scale work(s) of art on the Arts Lawn, APLβs outdoor green space on the University of Chicagoβs Arts Block. Over the course of a year-and-a-half, Mayorga will be afforded time and space to create new work that enhances the built environment of Chicagoβs Washington Park neighborhood--generating new moments for public gathering and collective South Side experiences. The artist will be provided with funding and ongoing administrative and curatorial support. During the year-and-a-half public art project, CSRPC will collaborate with Mayorga to create public moments of engagement with various communities on and off campus as well as engage with UChicago students through studio critiques and roundtable discussions. Project completion and celebration is anticipated for summer 2026.
*While focusing on this exciting new opportunity the APL/CSRPC AIRs program will be paused. It will resume in 2026.
